Helping the needed in Howard County
On September 15, 1997, the Church of the Resurrection Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society was established for the purpose of providing emergency assistance to Howard County residents in need. Specifically, the conference assists families in the following ways:
- Temporary shelter for the homeless
- Rental assistance for families being evicted
- Emergency funds for pharmaceutical needs
- Emergency food packages and food store certificates
- Emergency funds for families whosehousehold utilities are being cut off.
The St. Vincent de Paul Society also conducts used clothing drives twice yearly for distribution to outreach centers within the inter-city.
Approximately 600 families including 2,000 individuals are served annually with disbursements totaling approximately $34,000.
The Resurrection Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society staff is composed of parish volunteers who assist needy clients from the parish pastoral center three days a week.
The source of funds is the parishioners of Resurrection donations primarily through the poor boxes located throughout the church.
The conference maintains a close working relationship with other Howard County organizations that provide a similar service.
